Abstract: Acoustic micro/nano manipulation method has been proposed and developed to meet the new requirements for actuation of micro/nanoscale objects. It utilizes the physical effects of sound to handle micro/nanoscale solids, droplets, bubbles, and soft materials in a controlled way. This paper gives its background and status quo, summarizes and comments its major physical principles, demonstrates several examples of its latest progress, and suggests its potential applications and the important challenges which need to be met for the further development of the method.
