Abstract:
Dermatillomania is an impulse control disorder characterized by the repeated urge to pick at one’s own skin, often to the extent that damage is caused. Dermatillomania will be written into DSM-V. Dermatillomania can cause feeling of guilt, shame, and embarrassment in individuals, and this increases the risk of self-harm. Some theories regarding the causes of dermatillomania have been proposed. The two main methods for treating dermatillomania are pharmacological and behavioral intervention.
