The performance characteristics and the state-of-the-art in energy storage technology including pumped hydroelectric, compressed air, flywheel, superconducting magnetic, supercapacitor, battery, and other important energy storage technology are summarized. According to the characteristics and the requirements from smart grid, the developing trend and application prospects of multiple energy storage technologies are provided.
