Teaching, Course Management and Assessment Experience

 Head of Postgraduate Studies (9/2006–9/2008), University of Greenwich. I have the overall responsibility for the Master Programmes within the School of Engineering, focusing on the strategic development, common structure and process, new programme development and marketing.
 Director of MSc in CAD/CAM (1994-2000), Cranfield University. I have significantly rationalised the then old fashioned MSc in CAD/CAM course, by introducing new subjects, bringing more industrial support, and linking the course to research programmes. An industrial advisory committee was established, and industry spopnsored individual and group projects were introduced. The success of the CAD/CAM Course provided the bassis for EPSRC Teaching Package 'IT for Product Realisation'.
 Subjects taught: Research methodology, product evaluation and manufacture, product data modelling, computer aided process planning and CNC machining, concurrent engineering, product development process management, knowledge and innovation management, data structures and databases, and CAD/CAM/CAE.
 MSc projects supervised: Over 100 projects of taught MSc course by September 2011.
 Short course taught/orgainsed: I have organised a high-profile short course in ‘Commercial aircraft development and operation’ for 26 delegartes from China Aerospace Industries, May 2005. The same course repeated in July 2006 for over 30 delegates.

 Royal Academy of Engineering Industrial Secondment Scheme with ArviMeritor (Oct. 2000 - Sept. 2001). The scheme provides opportunity to engineering academics to gain the latest developments in industry and to assist universities in developing links with a host organisation.
 Winner of Edwin Walker Prize (1989) awarded by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers for the paper entitled "An approach to the low cost computer aided manufacture of components enbodying free form surfaces". This paper was based on his PhD work at UMIST, and thus the prize is the recognition of the quality of that research.
 Winner of British Council ‘Technological Co-operation Award’ (1984). The winners were selected by the Chinese State Education Ministry from graduates of Chinese top universities in that year. The award includes full financial support for MSc and PhD study in the UK and 1 year training in English at Shanghai Second Foreign Language University. It was extremely competitive.
