Abstract: The present research takes the public speeches of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank from the official websites of the Ministry of Finance and that of World Bank and analyses their different attitudinal resources in frequency and ratio from the perspective of the Appraisal Theory to reveal the different national identities they construct. The results indicate that the former constructs the identity as a positive “judge” and “leader”, while the latter as a neutral “judge”, “participant” and “supporter”.
