Abstract: This article aims to explore the problem of love views influenced by hedonism and consumerism in postmodern society through the interpretation of love views in “The Symposium” and critical analysis of postmodern consumerist love views. The article introduces the characteristics of postmodern consumerist love views, including materialistic misconceptions, surface-level attraction illusions, and utilitarian relationships for personal satisfaction. The in-depth analysis of love views in “The Symposium” reveals that love transcends material desires and surface attractions, emphasizing its spiritual aspects, pursuit of wisdom and virtue, and spiritual connection and affinity of souls. Building upon this, the article critically analyzes the limitations of postmodern consumerist love views and draws inspiration from Plato’s views on love to propose pathways and suggestions for reshaping love views, aiming to achieve meaningful and fulfilling relationships. By reading this article, readers can gain a deeper understanding of the issues related to postmodern consumerist love views and find food for thought and inspiration in shaping love views that are more beneficial to individuals and society.
