Abstract: The ideological relationship between Marx and Powell has undergone a complex transformation from mutual recognition, disagreements, intense debates to ultimately open criticism. This process not only profoundly reflects the evolution of the philosophical and political concepts of the two thinkers, but also has crucial significance for understanding the development process of Marx’s early thought. Karl Marx: A Biography provides important clues for us to understand the transformation of this relationship. By sorting out the relationship between Marx and Powell’s ideas, we can have a clearer understanding of the development process of Marx’s early ideas and how he gradually transitioned towards the materialist view of history. This not only helps us to deeply understand the establishment of the early Marxist ideological system, but also provides useful insights for us to grasp the construction of Marx’s materialist view of history.
