基于合作原则对《了不起的盖茨比》的人物对话解读

The Interpretation of Characters’ Dialogues in The Great Gatsby Based on the Principle of Cooperation

摘要: 1925年出版的《了不起的盖茨比》是菲茨杰拉德的代表作。这本小说采用了独到的艺术技巧，生动地描绘了那个时代的美国风貌，并深刻地展现了“美国梦”这一主题。本研究以格莱斯的合作原则中的“数量准则”、“质量准则”、“关系准则”、“方式准则”四个准则为基础，选取小说中违反或遵循合作原则的人物对话示例，对《了不起的盖茨比》中具有代表性的对话进行分类，从而探究合作原则在小说人物对话中的应用。深刻揭示了小说中盖茨比、尼克、黛西和汤姆四个主要人物微妙的性格特征。

Abstract: The Great Gatsby, published in 1925, is Fitzgerald’s representative work. The novel uses unique artistic techniques to vividly depict the American scenes of that era and deeply presents the theme of the “American Dream”. Based on the four principles of “quantity maxim”, “quality maxim”, “relation maxim” and “manner maxim” in Grice’s cooperation principle, this study selects dialogues of characters in the novel that violate or follow the cooperation principle, and classifies the representative dialogues in The Great Gatsby, so as to explore the application of the cooperation principle in the dialogue of characters in the novel. It deeply reveals the subtle character characteristics of Gatsby, Nick, Daisy and Tom in the novel.
