《中庸》英译本译者行为比较研究

The Comparative Study of Translators’ Behavior in English Translations of “The Doctrine of the Mean”

摘要: 《中庸》是儒家经典著作之一，与《论语》《孟子》《大学》并称为四书，对后世影响深远。该书已有超过三百年的译介史，译本数量颇为丰富。本文选取理雅各和辜鸿铭二人所翻译的两个具有代表性的译本，将其置于译者行为批评理论框架之下，对比分析两位译者的译内行为和译外行为，以期丰富《中庸》英译研究和译者行为批评研究。

Abstract: As a cornerstone of Confucian philosophy, “The Doctrine of the Mean” stands alongside “The Analects,” “Mencius,” and “The Great Learning” in the prestigious quartet known as the Four Books. These texts have profoundly shaped the intellectual landscape for centuries. With a translation history extending over three centuries and a rich tapestry of versions, this study spotlights the translations by James Legge and Gu Hongming. Employing the translator’s action criticism theory, this paper conducts a comparative analysis of their intra-textual and extra-textual behaviors. The objective is to deepen our understanding of the English translations of “The Doctrine of the Mean” and to contribute to the translator’s action criticism discourse.
