从概念整合理论视角看《红楼梦》植物意象英译策略

Translation Strategies for Plant Imagery in A Dream of Red Mansions from the Perspective of Conceptual Integration Theory

摘要: 《红楼梦》是我国古典现实主义小说的巅峰之作，其各种植物意象暗示了角色的性格和命运，照应了《红楼梦》“千红一哭，万艳同悲”之旨归。该研究将基于概念整合理论，选取《红楼梦》前八十回中的植物意象，对比霍克斯译本和杨宪益译本各自翻译方法的得当与否，以期对《红楼梦》中植物意象翻译有所启示。

Abstract: A Dream of Red Mansions is the pinnacle of classical Chinese realist fiction, in which various plant imagery subtly reflects the personalities and destinies of its characters, echoing the novel’s overarching theme of “a thousand beauties weep, ten thousand blossoms share the same tragic fate”. Based on Conceptual Integration Theory, this study selects plant imagery from the first 80 chapters of A Dream of Red Mansions. By comparing the translation strategies employed in David Hawkes’ and Yang Xianyi’s versions, it aims to provide insights into the effective translation of plant imagery in A Dream of Red Mansions.
