无解之结——评2008年美国普利策戏剧奖获奖作品《八月:奥色治郡》
The Inextricable Knot—A Review of August: Osage County, Winner of the 2008 Pulitzer Prize for Drama
摘要: 本文以性别批判视角,聚焦特雷西·莱茨的普利策获奖剧作《八月:奥色治郡》,剖析家庭场域中系统性性别权力对女性的异化。研究揭示,剧中三代白人女性深受“幸福主妇”神话的禁锢与身体欲望化规训,内化压迫逻辑并陷入残酷的同性竞争,导致姐妹情谊趋于虚妄。本文进一步引入交叉性视角,通过分析原住民女佣约翰娜被隐形化、工具化的处境,指出种族与阶级因素如何加剧女性共同体的内部裂痕,从而解构了跨越身份差异的女性联盟之可能性,最终展现出一张无路可逃的权力之网。
Abstract: This paper, from a gender-critical perspective, examines Tracy Letts’ Pulitzer Prize-winning drama August: Osage County, analyzing the systematic alienation of women by gendered power within the familial sphere. The study reveals that the three generations of white women in the play are trapped by the myth of the “happy housewife” and disciplined into objectified desire, internalizing oppressive logics and engaging in brutal intrasexual competition, which renders sisterhood fragile and illusory. Furthermore, by introducing an intersectional lens through the analysis of the Native American maid Johnna’s marginalized and instrumentalized position, this paper demonstrates how race and class factors exacerbate fractures within the female community, deconstructing the possibility of solidarity across identity differences. Ultimately, the play presents an inescapable web of power.
