Abstract: Network hot words are simple and practical, in line with the economy of the language, and have clear categories. The causes of network hot words are complex. The need of new words in linguistics, the economic principle of language expression and people’s expression needs are all the fundamental driving forces. The universality of new media use providing a platform for communication, and the sudden emergence of social and historical events are all the reasons for the birth of network hot words. Its use reflects public opinion, meets the expression needs of the people, and injects fresh vitality into the language.
