Abstract: Urinary calculi is one of the most common diseases of urinary system in the world. Although it is a benign disease, it is caused by many factors. The mechanisms of its occurrence and progression in-volve a number of physiological and biochemical processes, however, these mechanisms are not fully confirmed. The purpose of this review is to unify the research progress of stones matrix protein (SMP) in urinary calculi. By summarizing previous studies on SMP in various urinary calculi, we hope to have a preliminary understanding of the generation and progression mechanism of urinary calculi, so as to provide a solid theoretical basis and research direction for subsequent studies.
