The Concept of Meta-Accuracy and Its Related Research
Abstract: Human beings are constituted by a multitude of social relationships, and social interaction is inevitable. In social interaction, it is very important for individuals to accurately infer the impression they have left on others because individuals will modify and adjust their behavior according to the impression they have left on others or the view others have of them and make value judgments about themselves. The accuracy of inferring others’ perceptions of oneself is called meta-accuracy. Given the importance of meta-accuracy in interpersonal interactions, this paper synthesizes current research on meta-accuracy by first describing the concept and measures of meta-accuracy. Second, the two components of meta-accuracy (meta-positivity and distinctive meta-accuracy) are described from the perspective of the social accuracy model. In addition, the antecedents and consequences of meta-accuracy are described, including the antecedents of meta-accuracy and its influence on the relationship. Finally, possible future research directions for meta-accuracy are discussed.
