Recent Advances in Lateral Abdominal Wall Suspension for the Treatment of Pelvic Organ Prolapse
Abstract: Pelvic Organ Prolapse (POP) is a common gynecological disorder, especially in middle-aged and older women, characterized by abnormal decline of the pelvic organs such as the uterus, bladder, and rectum. It can lead to impaired body image and reduced quality of life. With the aging of the population and the change of lifestyle, the incidence of pelvic organ prolapse is increasing year by year. At present, the main treatment methods include conservative treatment and surgical treatment, and the different surgical treatment approaches can be divided into transvaginal reconstruction and transabdominal reconstruction. In recent years, lateral abdominal wall suspension, as a new surgical method, has gradually become one of the effective options for the treatment of pelvic organ prolapse. With the development of minimally invasive technology, laparoscopic technology and Da Vinci robot technology have also been skillfully applied in lateral abdominal wall suspension. This article reviews the progress of lateral abdominal wall suspension in the treatment of pelvic organ prolapse.
