Abstract: Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease that significantly impacts patients’ quality of life. In recent years, the rapid advancement of nanotechnology has brought new hope for UC treatment. Current studies demonstrate that nanodrug delivery systems can effectively enhance the bioavailability of therapeutics in the intestinal tract, while nanomaterials exhibit remarkable anti-inflammatory properties to alleviate inflammatory responses. Moreover, nanotechnology shows promising potential in biomarker detection, enabling earlier and more precise disease monitoring. Despite the advantages of nanotherapeutic strategies in UC management, challenges remain, including concerns regarding the safety and biocompatibility of nanomaterials. This review aims to summarize recent progress in nanotechnology-driven UC research, explore its potential clinical applications, and propose future directions, with the goal of providing novel strategies and approaches for UC therapy.
