Abstract: Gastrointestinal endoscopy is the gold standard for the diagnosis and treatment of digestive system diseases, with advantages such as direct visualization and accuracy. However, it is an invasive procedure, and during the operation, stimulation of the patient’s pharynx can cause a series of adverse reactions such as coughing, nausea, vomiting, increased heart rate, restlessness, and elevated blood pressure. With the continuous development of gastroscopy technology and the increasing demands for diagnosis and treatment as well as comfort, painless gastrointestinal endoscopy has become the preferred choice for patients and is now widely used in the clinical diagnosis and treatment of digestive system diseases. Alfentanil, as a new ultra-short-acting μ-receptor analgesic, has the advantages of rapid onset, short duration of action, and minimal respiratory depression. Currently, low-dose alfentanil combined with propofol is widely used in clinical practice. This article provides a brief review of the selection of anesthetic drugs for painless gastrointestinal endoscopy in recent years, with the aim of providing a certain basis for rational drug use in painless gastroscopy.
