Abstract: Stellate ganglion block (SGB) is a minimally invasive technique that reversibly blocks sympathetic nerve conduction through local injection of local anesthetics, and has been widely applied in pain management and autonomic dysfunction. With the popularization of the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) concept, its application in perioperative management of gastrointestinal surgeries has been increasingly studied. Based on the literature retrieved from PubMed, this article reviews the latest advancements in the use of stellate ganglion block in gastrointestinal surgeries, summarizing its value in stress modulation, improvement of gastrointestinal function, and adjuvant analgesia.
