Abstract: As a country with a large aging population, China faces significant healthcare challenges related to dementia. Vascular dementia (VaD) represents the second most common type of dementia and accounts for the highest hospitalization rate among dementia patients, imposing substantial medical and social burdens. It has become a widely recognized health challenge and a hot topic in medical research. However, the pathogenesis of VaD is complex, involving numerous interacting risk factors, which poses significant challenges for early identification. In recent years, with the deepening of domestic and international research on VaD, our understanding of its onset and progression has become clearer. Inflammation and lipid metabolism disorders are critical factors in the pathogenesis of VaD. This review explores the complex relationships between inflammatory factors, blood lipids, and vascular dementia, aiming to provide a comprehensive perspective for understanding the pathological mechanisms of VaD and identifying potential therapeutic targets.
