Abstract: As the “New Energy Capital”, Changzhou boasts significant advantages in the chemical new materials industry. Against this backdrop, this study aims to explore the willingness of graduates from the School of Chemical Engineering and Materials at Changzhou Institute of Technology to stay, work, and start businesses in Changzhou, as well as its core influencing factors. Using questionnaire surveys, interviews, and statistical analysis, this study conducts a comprehensive investigation of graduates from 2019 to 2025 and analyzes their actual employment status. The findings reveal that factors such as major matching, salary expectations, city identity, and family resources have a critical impact on students’ decisions to stay, work, and start businesses in Changzhou. Among them, the alignment between majors and Changzhou’s chemical and materials industrial chain is an important pull factor, while the gap between salary expectations and reality acts as a push factor. This study provides important references for promoting high-quality employment of graduates in Changzhou.
