Abstract: This study utilized the Go/Nogo paradigm to investigate the effects of social anxiety and various emotional situations (positive, neutral, and negative) on inhibitory control among university students. A total of 60 valid participants were recruited through scale screening, including 31 individuals with high social anxiety and 29 with low social anxiety. A 2 (social anxiety: high/low) × 3 (emotional situation: positive/neutral/negative) mixed experimental design was employed. The foundings are as follows: (1) The inhibitory control performance of the high and low social anxiety groups was different in different emotional situations. Regardless of the emotional situation, the overall performance of the low social anxiety group was superior to that of the high social anxiety group. (2) There was a significant interaction between social anxiety and emotional situation across different behavioral indicators. For the high social anxiety group, response inhibition was impaired under negative emotional situations, as evidenced by a significantly higher Nogo error rate compared to the neutral condition; meanwhile, their execution speed and processing efficiency were enhanced under positive emotional situations, reflected by significantly shorter Go reaction times compared to the neutral condition.
