Involution and Mental Health: A Systematic Review

摘要: 2020年“内卷”一词重新流行于大众视野，已成为当代社会突出的心理现象。各学科领域对于内卷现象越来越关注，尤其是教育学、社会学和职场等领域。近年来，大量实证研究表明，内卷会带来一系列负面心理健康结果，导致焦虑、抑郁等心理问题。同时。也有研究表明内卷会激发个体向上内动力，提高个体幸福感。内卷影响的不一致结果表明其内涵和心理机制仍要进一步深入研究，个体需要通过转变认知思维来更恰当地理解内卷这一个不可逃避的社会选择，从而适应社会节奏，提高自身价值。文章围绕社会视角下的“内卷感知”和个体视角下的“内卷行为”进行概念解析，深刻理解内卷内涵，探究不同视角下“内卷”的影响机制。

Abstract: Since 2020, the term “involution” has regained popularity in the public discourse and has become a prominent psychological phenomenon in contemporary society. It has drawn increasing attention across various disciplines, especially in education, sociology, and workplace research. In recent years, numerous empirical studies have revealed that involution is associated with a series of negative mental health outcomes, such as anxiety and depression. Meanwhile, other studies have suggested that involution can stimulate individuals’ internal motivation and improve their subjective well-being. The inconsistent findings regarding the effects of involution indicate that its connotation and psychological mechanism still need further in-depth investigation. Individuals need to adjust their cognitive thinking to better understand involution as an inevitable social phenomenon, so as to adapt to the social rhythm and enhance their own value. This paper conducts a conceptual analysis of “involution perception” from a social perspective and “involution behavior” from an individual perspective, deeply understands the connotation of involution, and explores the influence mechanism of “involution” from different perspectives.
