Abstract: With the advancement of large language models (LLMs), artificial intelligence has garnered increasing attention in literary translation. This study takes Jin Yong’s “The Return of the Condor Heroes” (2003 revised edition) as the corpus, selecting 15 typical culture-loaded words to compare the translation performance of DeepSeek-V3 and GPT-4. Framed by functionalist translation theory and domestication/foreignization strategies, and combining automatic metrics (BLEU, BERTScore) with five-dimensional human evaluation, the findings show that both models have strong semantic transmission performance, yet with different strategic tendencies: DeepSeek-V3 tends to adopt foreignization to preserve source cultural elements, while GPT-4 prefers domestication for natural English expression. This study explores the characteristics of “technologized translator subjectivity” of AI models in martial arts literature translation and constructs a dual-model comparative evaluation framework, offering insights for the outbound translation of Chinese literature and cross-cultural communication.
