文化认知语言学视角下英汉“龙”隐喻研究
A Study on “Dragon” Metaphor in English and Chinese from the Perspective of Cultural Cognitive Linguistics
摘要: 本文从文化认知语言学的视角出发,探讨英语与汉语中“dragon (龙)”所承载的丰富隐喻意义及其生成的认知与文化因素。研究以三个概念隐喻——“人是龙”(A HUMAN BEING IS A DRAGON)、“具体事物是龙”(A CONCRETE ENTITY IS A DRAGON)、“抽象概念是龙”
Abstract: This paper explores the abundant metaphorical meanings of “dragon” in English and Chinese from the perspective of Cultural Cognitive Linguistics, as well as the cognitive and cultural factors that influence these metaphorical meanings. Based on three conceptual metaphors: “A HUMAN BEING IS A DRAGON”, “A CONCRETE ENTITY IS A DRAGON”, and “AN ABSTRACT OBJECT IS A DRAGON”, this paper systematically classifies and analyzes the idiomatic expressions related to “dragon” in English and Chinese. The results reveal a striking divergence: in Chinese, “dragon” predominantly carries positive connotations including authority, excellence, and national identity; whereas in English, “dragon” is frequently associated with evil, danger, and oppression. These divergences are shaped by geographical, mythological, religious, and sociocultural factors. This paper reveals the differences and commonalities between the cultural cognitive bases of the two languages and illustrates how cultural factors shape linguistic expressions, providing theoretical support for cross-cultural communication, language education, and translation practice.
