Analysis of Obstacle Factors in the Extension of Nurses’ Role in the Promotion of Chairside Immediate Digital Restoration
Abstract: Objective: To explore the current status, challenges, and optimization pathways of nurses’ extended roles in the application of Chairside Immediate Restorative Dentistry (CIDR), providing a reference for clarifying nurses’ functional positioning in this technique and promoting its clinical standardization. Methods: A questionnaire survey was conducted among nurses in the dental departments of tertiary hospitals in Urumqi, Xinjiang, focusing on their knowledge of CIDR technology, digital equipment operation skills, patient communication practices, and barriers to role expansion. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and qualitative methods. Results: CIDR technology drives the transformation of oral nursing roles from traditional instrument delivery to composite functions such as digital equipment management and patient-provider collaboration. However, current nurses generally face issues like insufficient digital operation skills, unclear role cognition, and a lack of training systems. Conclusion: Successful role transformation is key to the effective application of CIDR technology. The study suggests the need to systematically advance nurses’ role transition in CIDR through standardized training courses, clear functional division guidelines, and optimized multidisciplinary collaboration processes to enhance technology’s application efficiency and patients’ treatment experiences.
