基于小型平行语料库的动画字幕翻译风格研究——以Linda Jaivin译《白蛇》三部曲为例

A Small Parallel Corpus-Based Study of Animation Subtitle Translation Style—A Case Study of Linda Jaivin’s Translation of the White Snake Trilogy

摘要: 本研究基于Mona Baker的译者风格研究框架，借助自建英汉平行语料库和数据统计工具，以定性和定量分析结合的方式研究由澳大利亚译者贾佩琳翻译的中国国风系列电影《白蛇》。以奈达文化分类为框架，将其划分为生态、物质、社会与语言等五类，并结合“求真–务实”连续统进行分析。结果表明，译者以释义、替代和省译等务实策略为主，以提升可读性与理解效率；同时对专有名词及核心意象适度保留直译或音译，兼顾文化传递。研究认为，该翻译呈现以务实为主、兼顾求真的动态平衡特征。

Abstract: Drawing on Mona Baker’s framework of translator style, this study examines the English subtitles of the Chinese animated White Snake film series translated by Linda Jaivin. Based on a self-compiled Chinese-English parallel corpus and supported by statistical tools, the research adopts a mixed-methods approach that integrates qualitative analysis with quantitative description. Guided by Nida’s fivefold classification of cultural categories, culture-loaded words are categorized into ecological, religious, material, social, and linguistic types, and further analyzed within the Truth-seeking-Utility-attaining continuum. The findings indicate that the translator predominantly employs utility-oriented strategies—such as paraphrase, substitution, and omission—to enhance readability and facilitate audience comprehension under subtitling constraints. At the same time, proper nouns and salient cultural images are selectively preserved through literal translation or transliteration, thereby maintaining a degree of cultural specificity. Overall, the translation exhibits a dynamic and context-sensitive balance, characterized by a primarily utility-attaining orientation complemented by selective truth-seeking.
