Abstract: The prevalence of gestational obesity has been rising globally. Gestational obesity not only increases the risk of short-term adverse outcomes for pregnant women and fetuses—including gestational diabetes mellitus, hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, macrosomia, and increased cesarean section rates—but may also profoundly affect the long-term metabolic health of both mother and offspring through intrauterine programming mechanisms. This review systematically examines the effects of gestational obesity on pregnancy outcomes and neonatal health, with the aim of informing clinical management and intervention strategies.
