概念整合视角下《围城》中隐喻英译研究

A Study on the English Translation of Metaphors in Fortress Besieged from the Perspective of Conceptual Integration Theory

摘要: 针对《围城》隐喻英译研究偏重语言文化层面、缺乏认知机制解释的问题，运用概念整合理论，从认知角度分析译者重构隐喻概念整合网络的内在过程。通过构建包含40个典型隐喻的封闭语料库，采用定性分析与比较分析相结合的方法，从人物刻画、关系认知、文化负载、社会讽刺四类隐喻中选取8个核心案例进行深描，考察译者在概念整合网络各空间中的认知操作与翻译策略。研究发现，译者凯利与茅国权在隐喻英译中系统性地倾向于直译策略，其动因在于认知共通性、文学风格保留与文化身份传达的协同作用。该策略有效保全了原文的层创意义与讽刺效果，表明概念整合理论对文学翻译认知重构具有较强解释力。

Abstract: In response to the tendency of existing research on the English translation of metaphors in Fortress Besieged to focus on linguistic and cultural dimensions while lacking an explanation from cognitive mechanisms, this study employs Conceptual Blending Theory to analyze, from a cognitive perspective, the translator’s internal process of reconstructing the conceptual blending networks of metaphors. By constructing a closed corpus consisting of 40 typical metaphors and adopting a combination of qualitative analysis and comparative analysis, eight core cases are selected from four categories—characterization, relational cognition, cultural-loadedness, and social satire—for in-depth description. The study examines the translator’s cognitive operations and translation strategies across various spaces within the conceptual blending network. The findings reveal that translators Kelly and Mao systematically favor a literal translation strategy in rendering metaphors, driven by the synergy among cognitive universality, preservation of literary style, and conveyance of cultural identity. This strategy effectively preserves the emergent meaning and satirical effect of the original text, demonstrating that Conceptual Blending Theory possesses strong explanatory power for the cognitive restructuring involved in literary translation.
