Abstract: In the current era of rapid social media development, adolescents are at a critical stage of physical and mental growth. Facing the widespread penetration of “filter culture,” the construction of their self-identity has been profoundly affected. This paper focuses on the alienation of adolescent self-identity under filter culture. By analyzing behavioral data from social media platforms, public discussions, and typical cases, it explores the formation mechanisms, manifestations, and social impacts of this phenomenon, and proposes intervention pathways from a social work perspective. The study finds that social media intensifies appearance anxiety and dependence on virtual self-images, exacerbating the fragmentation between adolescents’ real and virtual selves. Social work should actively intervene through psychological education, media literacy enhancement, and online support networks to guide adolescents in building a healthy self-identity.
