The Application of Image Schema Theory in English Writing—A Case Study on CET-4 and CET-6

摘要: 英语写作一直是广受讨论的议题，近年来出现将其他领域的理论知识引入到英语写作的趋势。为了提升学生的英语写作能力，本研究系统收集了2022年至2024年大学英语四六级写作范文，详细梳理了这些范文中包含意向图式的词汇、短语和句子，并深入分析意向图式理论对提高学生英语写作能力的作用。研究发现，大学英语四六级写作范文中的句子、短语和词汇常常包含意向图式，尤其是路径图式、容器图式和连接图式是密度最大的三种意向图式。通过对具体例句的分析，研究发现，使用意向图式理论既有利于教师讲解写作技能，又能提升学生的认知和写作能力。本研究构建的意向图式识别流程有助于推动意向图式理论与写作的融合，可为提升学生的认知水平和写作能力提供借鉴。

Abstract: English writing has always been a widely discussed topic. In recent years, there has been a trend of introducing theoretical knowledge from other fields into English writing. To enhance students’ English writing abilities, this study systematically collected the writing samples of the CET-4 and CET-6 from 2022 to 2024, sorted out the vocabulary, phrases, and sentences that reflect image schema in these samples, and deeply analyzed the role of image schema in improving students’ English writing abilities. The research found that image schema is frequently reflected in the writing samples of the CET-4 and CET-6, with path schema, container schema, and link schema being the three most frequently occurring types of image schema. Through the analysis of specific examples, the study found that the application of image schema not only benefits teachers in explaining writing skills but also enhances students’ cognitive and writing abilities. The image schema identification process constructed in this study helps promote the integration of image schema and writing, providing a reference for improving students’ cognitive ability and writing level.
