From “Temporal Void” to “Educational Presence”—The Transformation Logic and Implementation Path of Curricularizing Fragmented Time before Ideological and Political Courses in Higher Vocational Colleges
Abstract: The 3~8 minute pre-class fragmented interval in higher vocational ideological and political courses constitutes a “temporal void” occupied by a negative hidden curriculum, the implicit messages of which stand in latent contradiction with the pedagogical objectives of such courses. Resolving this predicament hinges upon effecting a state transition from “temporal void” to “educational presence” through the curricularization of pre-class fragmented time. Hidden curriculum theory furnishes an analytical instrument for diagnosing the adverse educational ramifications of the temporal void; time sociology illuminates the institutional power mechanisms that perpetuate its persistence; and micro-learning theory supplies the cognitive scientific foundation for designing the substantive content of educational presence. Upon this theoretical foundation, the transition from temporal void to educational presence proceeds according to a three-tier progressive logic. At the precondition tier, temporal attributes are reconstructed: structural endowment confers educational properties upon the fragmented interval. At the core tier, power relations are reshaped: the transfer of agency transforms the “suspension of the subject” into the “presence of the subject.” At the goal tier, the hidden curriculum is replaced: positively oriented value guidance systematically supplants the tacit influence of the negative hidden curriculum. This transition is operationalized through a “three-tier, five-dimension” practical framework. The three tiers construct a transformation ladder encompassing institutional safeguards, process quality, and value destination; the five dimensions—participating subjects, content selection, operational mechanisms, immediate feedback, and circular extension—furnish specific operational levers, each dimension targeting a distinct facet of the negative hidden curriculum for purposive substitution. The transition from temporal void to educational presence opens up a long-neglected value space within higher vocational ideological and political courses. Its methodological import resides in the recognition that pedagogical reform need not rely upon grand narratives or substantial resource investment: the meticulous design of marginal instructional time and space may prove equally capable of leveraging systemic transformation in classroom ecology.
