Research on Self-Regulation Mechanisms of College Students’ Social Media Use Risks
Abstract: Social media use risks should not be reduced to excessive use time. The interaction between platform stimuli and real-life pressure may lead college students to a self-regulation chain involving goal deviation, impulsive use, emotional avoidance, and delayed action, accompanied by poorer sleep quality, accumulated negative emotions, and weakened offline support. Based on literature analysis and theoretical construction, scattered variables such as social comparison, fear of missing out, rumination, and bedtime procrastination can be integrated into the process of self-regulation. College mental health education may respond through universal prevention, selective intervention, and indicated intervention, including media literacy education, self-regulation training, offline support, and professional referral.
