Effects of Cultural Priming on Code-Switching Costs in Bilinguals’ Language Production

摘要: 为考察不同的文化接触情境(母语文化、目标语文化、双重文化以及控制条件)如何影响双语者在言语产出过程中的语码转换代价,招募60名非平衡汉英双语者完成了在四种文化接触条件下的改良版数字命名任务。采用重复测量方差分析对反应时和正确率进行分析。结果显示,文化接触条件与语言类型之间存在显著交互作用。在母语文化接触条件与控制条件下,第一语言的转换代价大于第二语言。而在目标语文化与双重文化接触条件下,第一语言的转换代价则小于第二语言。
Abstract: To investigate how different cultural priming contexts (Chinese culture, American culture, dual culture, and control condition) modulate the switch costs during language production among bilinguals, sixty unbalanced Chinese‑English bilinguals were recruited to complete a modified digit‑naming task under four cultural priming conditions. Reaction times and accuracy rates were analyzed using repeated-measures ANOVA. A significant interaction was found between cultural exposure condition and language type. In the Chinese cultural exposure and control conditions, switch costs were larger for the first language (L1) than for the second language (L2). In contrast, under the American culture and dual culture exposure conditions, switch costs were smaller for L1 than for L2.
