University of London、Queen Mary University London、University of Groningen。
Abstract: Objective: This study aimed to analyze the research status, hotspots, and trends in the field of physical therapy for patellar tendinopathy over the past two decades, and to provide a reference for future research. Methods: Relevant literature published between 2007 and 2026 was retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection database. Using CiteSpace V6.4.R2, collaboration networks of countries, institutions, and authors were constructed, and keyword co-occurrence, clustering, and burst detection analyses were performed. Results: A total of 944 publications were included. The most productive countries were the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia. Leading institutions included the University of London, Queen Mary University London, and the University of Groningen. The most prolific author was Maffulli, Nicola. Key research hotspots were “patellar tendinopathy” and “jumper’s knee.” Keyword clustering formed three thematic clusters: “clinical diagnosis and basic pathology,” “diversified interventions,” and “reference conditions and assessment.” Research frontiers have evolved from early pathological mechanism exploration, to emphasis on evidence-based methods, and more recently to directions such as “risk factors” and “exercise therapy.” Conclusion: The field of physical therapy for patellar tendinopathy exhibits a clear knowledge structure, with a strong emphasis on evidence-based methodology. Future research is expected to focus more on individualized approaches and long-term risk management strategies.
