Abstract: With significant advancements in critical care medicine, the short-term survival rate of critically ill patients has improved substantially. However, the ensuing long-term complications severely compromise their prognosis and quality of life. Post-Intensive Care Syndrome (PICS) refers to the persistent, long-term decline in physical, cognitive, and psychological functions that patients experience following discharge from the intensive care unit (ICU). This paper systematically reviews recent literature to explore the underlying mechanisms and assessment tools of PICS. Furthermore, it comprehensively reviews core nursing intervention strategies from four key dimensions: the in-depth implementation of the ABCDEF bundle, precise early rehabilitation, ICU diaries and digital narrative interventions, and transitional care models. This review aims to provide an evidence-based foundation for clinical healthcare professionals to establish a standardized early prevention and nursing care system for PICS.
