Abstract: Depressive disorder is a common mental illness with a persistently high morbidity rate, making targeted therapeutic intervention extremely urgent. A growing body of research evidence confirms that gut microbiota plays a critical role in the occurrence and development of depressive disorder, and may alleviate depressive symptoms and improve cognitive function through multiple pathways. This paper elaborates on the potential mechanisms by which gut microbiota influences depressive disorder and summarizes the latest research progress, aiming to provide new insights for research on gut microbiota-based antidepressant therapies.
