A Study on Differences in College Students’ English Learning in the Era of Artificial Intelligence—An Nvivo Coding Analysis Based on 30 Interview Transcripts

摘要: 生成式AI全面重塑英语学习场景，不同专业学生英语学习呈现全新分化特征。本研究选取15名英语专业、15名非英语专业本硕学生开展半结构化访谈，依托Nvivo15完成三级编码与矩阵编码，从学习动机、能力关注点、AI使用模式、学习方式、风险与未来认知五个维度对比两类学生学习差异。研究发现AI并未削弱英语学习价值，反而促成英语学习功能分层：非英专学生强化英语工具属性，英专学生需深耕语言专业能力，筑牢自身不可替代性。

Abstract: Generative artificial intelligence has thoroughly reshaped English learning scenarios, leading to newly differentiated characteristics in English learning among students of various majors. This study conducted semi-structured interviews with 15 English majors and 15 non-English majors at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Three-level coding and matrix coding were performed using Nvivo 15. Differences between the two groups were compared across five dimensions: learning motivation, focus of competency development, modes of AI application, learning approaches, and perceptions of potential risks and future trends. The results indicate that generative AI has not diminished the value of English learning; instead, it has brought about functional stratification in English education. Non-English majors tend to prioritize the instrumental value of English, while English majors need to delve deep into professional linguistic competence to consolidate their irreplaceable competitive edge.
