Abstract: Musculoskeletal ultrasound, as an important imaging tool for the diagnosis and management of inflammatory arthropathies in orthopedics, has received increasing attention in recent years because of its non-invasive nature and its ability to provide real-time and dynamic assessment. With the rapid development of handheld ultrasound (HHUS) and the introduction of artificial intelligence (AI), musculoskeletal ultrasound has shown great potential in improving diagnostic accuracy and portability. However, this field still faces several challenges, including unstable image quality, risks related to data storage security, and difficulties in integrating AI-assisted diagnostic technologies. This article reviews the application progress of handheld ultrasound (HHUS) and artificial intelligence (AI) in image recognition and quantitative analysis of musculoskeletal ultrasound, and discusses their value in the early diagnosis, disease assessment, and clinical promotion of inflammatory arthropathies. This review aims to provide theoretical evidence and practical reference for clinicians and researchers, and to promote the intelligent development of musculoskeletal ultrasound technology.
