Abstract: Immunoglobulin A nephropathy (IgAN) is the most common primary glomerular disease worldwide and has become a significant cause of chronic kidney disease. Currently, clinical diagnosis still relies on renal biopsy, which carries invasive risks. Therefore, there is an urgent need to identify reliable non-invasive biomarkers for the diagnosis and prognosis of IgAN. In recent years, numerous studies have reported that interleukin-6 (IL-6) plays an important role in the pathogenesis of IgAN, and some studies have found that IL-6 is associated with histological injuries and clinical prognosis of the disease. Thus, this review aims to summarize the research progress on the role of IL-6 in the pathogenesis of IgAN and its potential as a biomarker, in order to provide a theoretical basis for further investigation into IL-6 in IgAN.
