A Qualitative Study on Factors Influencing Supervisory Effectiveness among Novice Counselors
Abstract: This study explores the influencing factors of psychological supervision effectiveness among novice counselors, aiming to further promote their practical counseling competencies and professional development. A total of 25 novice counselors were recruited as research participants in this study. Thematic analysis was employed to analyze the supervision feedback reports submitted by participants following two sessions of group video supervision guided by a postmodern counseling perspective. The results revealed that supervision themes, supervisory relationships, and supervision modes are core determinants of psychological supervision effectiveness among novice counselors. Supervision themes serve as the core carrier underpinning and facilitating supervisory effects. Supervisory relationships act as the critical factor shaping and optimizing the translation of supervisory effectiveness. Supervision modes represent the practical pathway enabling the realization of supervisory effects. This study provides valuable implications for the professional development and ethical practice of psychological counselors, as well as for the protection of client rights and interests in future clinical practice.
