A Study on Gender Equality Awareness Cultivation and Intercultural Communication Competence Construction in College English Education
Abstract: Against the backdrop of deepening globalization and ongoing transformations in the international communication landscape, the function of college English education has gradually expanded from traditional language knowledge instruction to the cultivation of cultural understanding, value formation, and intercultural competence. As an important concept in the development of modern social civilization, gender equality, when integrated into foreign language talent cultivation, can not only enhance learners’ humanistic literacy and critical thinking skills but also provide a new pathway for fostering interdisciplinary talents with global perspectives and intercultural communication competence. Based on the theories of critical pedagogy and critical discourse analysis, this study explores the approaches and practical mechanisms for integrating gender equality awareness into college English education. It argues that gender equality education in college English should move beyond the traditional “theme supplementation” model and achieve an organic integration of language learning, cultural understanding, and value construction through curriculum content reconstruction, critical language awareness development, and intercultural practice activities. Meanwhile, foreign language learners should enhance their intercultural interpretation and international communication abilities by understanding China’s practice in women’s development, thereby contributing to cultural communication and meaning construction in global dialogues on gender issues. This study aims to expand the sociocultural dimension of college English education research and provide theoretical insights for innovating foreign language talent cultivation in the new era.
