Abstract: Objectives: This study aimed to compare the efficacy of ultrasound-guided radiofrequency ablation catheters for the treatment of different diameters of the great saphenous vein. Methods: This study retrospectively analyzed 120 patients with varicose veins of lower extremities (average age 58 ± 2.4 years) admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Ji’nan University from September 2018 to September 2021. According to the different diameters of the great saphenous vein, they were divided into a (<12 mm; n = 87) and b (≥12 mm; n = 33) groups. Ultrasonography was performed to compare the diameter changes and recanalization of different great saphenous vein radiofrequency ablation before and after 12 months. Results: In group a, GSV diameter decreased from 8.0 ± 2.9 mm preoperatively to 5.1 ± 0.7 mm at 12 months (P = 0.01); in group b, it decreased from 12.0 ± 2.4 mm to 6.7 ± 0.8 mm (P = 0.03). The 12-month recanalization rate did not differ significantly between groups (P = 0.285). Conclusion: Radiofrequency ablation is effective in the treatment of the great saphenous vein, and the diameter of the great saphenous vein does not affect the efficacy of radiofrequency ablation, and more clinical studies are needed to confirm it.
