Abstract: Meaning in life is a core protective factor for adolescent mental health, yet contemporary adolescents commonly face the predicament of a lack of meaning. Existing psychological interventions that rely predominantly on language and rational reflection have inherent limitations in this regard. Floatation-REST (Restricted Environmental Stimulation Technique), as a form of restricted environmental stimulation therapy, induces deep relaxation and altered states of consciousness, thereby offering a unique experiential pathway for meaning exploration. This paper constructs a theoretical framework for floatation therapy to enhance meaning in life among adolescents, grounded in the core logic of “sensory isolation-self-dialogue-emergence of meaning.” It further elaborates on the underlying psychological mechanisms: sensory isolation facilitates the inward shift of attention; the womb-like environment evokes a sense of primal security; the dissolution of body boundaries, coupled with the distortion of time perception, synergistically suspends everyday self-narratives, creating cognitive flexibility for meaning reconstruction; and the afterglow effect following floatation serves as a critical window for meaning integration. On this basis, the paper proposes a comprehensive intervention research protocol, including treatment dosage, phased guidance strategies, a safety and risk prevention system tailored for adolescent populations, and a mixed-methods effectiveness evaluation design. This paper aims to provide a theoretical blueprint and methodological paradigm for future empirical research, and suggests future directions such as conducting pilot validation studies, optimizing risk monitoring, and refining measurement tools, so as to promote the scientific application of floatation therapy in the field of adolescent mental health promotion.
