从并列与从属的角度研究散文的英译策略——以《匆匆》张培基译本为例

A Study on English Translation Strategies of Prose from the Perspective of Parataxis and Hypotaxis—A Case Study of Zhang Peiji’s Version of Transient Days

摘要: 本研究以系统功能语言学为理论框架，深入探讨了朱自清散文《匆匆》的英译本中并列与从属结构的翻译策略。通过分析张培基的译本，研究发现译者并未机械地将中文的并列结构转换为英文的从属结构，而是根据具体情况，运用包括话题转换、句子重构和逻辑隐含等多种策略，以适应目标语言的表达习惯。通过对《匆匆》这一具有代表性的现代汉语散文的英译策略分析，揭示了不同翻译策略对译文质量的影响，以及如何通过理解并列与从属关系来提高翻译质量。本案例研究补充了系统功能语言学在散文翻译中的实证应用，并为现代汉语散文的翻译提供了实践参考。同时指出了本研究的局限性，并提出了进一步研究的建议。

Abstract: Based on Systemic Functional Linguistics, this paper deeply explores the translation strategies of the English version of Zhu Ziqing’s lyric prose Transient Days from the perspective of parataxis and hypotaxis of clause complexes. By analyzing Zhang Peiji’s translated text, the research finds that, confronted with numerous paratactic Chinese clauses that feature parataxis, the translator does not mechanically convert Chinese parataxis into English hypotaxis. Instead, considering stylistic features of prose, the translator adopts flexible approaches including syntactic integration and reconstruction, topic shift and explicitation of implicit logic to adapt to the expression habits of the target language. Through the analysis of the English translation strategies of this representative modern Chinese prose Transient Days, this study reveals the influence of different translation strategies on the quality of the translation and how to improve the translation quality by understanding the parataxis and hypotaxis relationships. This case study supplements the empirical application of Systemic Functional Linguistics to prose translation and provides practical reference for the translation of modern Chinese prose. It also identifies the limitations of the present study and proposes suggestions for further research.
