Phenomenological Critique and Foundational Inquiry: The Limitations of Rosa’s Theory of Social Acceleration and Its Political-Economic Underpinning

摘要: 罗萨以“技术加速–社会变迁加速–生活步调加速”的联动结构把时间维度置于现代性批判核心，揭示了加速社会的异化与时间规训。但其解释多停留于竞争机制与文化动力，对资本主义生产关系如何生成“抽象时间”的统治缺乏政治经济学考察。借助普殊同关于抽象劳动、社会必要劳动时间与“跑步机效应”的分析，能够说明社会加速并非独立机制，而是资本主义抽象时间统治在社会生活层面的表现，从而为罗萨的现象批判提供根源性说明。

Abstract: Rosa places the dimension of time at the core of his critique of modernity through the interconnected structure of “technological acceleration—social change acceleration—pace of life acceleration,” revealing the alienation and temporal discipline inherent in accelerated society. However, his explanation remains largely confined to competitive mechanisms and cultural dynamics, lacking a political-economic elaboration of how capitalist relations of production give rise to the dominance of “abstract time.” This article draws on Postone’s analysis of abstract labor, socially necessary labor time, and the “treadmill effect” to argue that social acceleration is not an independent mechanism but rather a manifestation of the dominance of capitalist abstract time within the realm of social life, thereby providing a foundational explanation for Rosa’s phenomenological critique.
