Abstract: Objective: To explore the influence mechanism of adult attachment on intimate relationship satisfaction, and to examine the mediating role of autobiographical memory functions and the moderating role of implicit relationship beliefs. Methods: An online questionnaire survey was conducted among 300 college students with dating experience. Participants completed the Relationship Satisfaction Scale (short form), the Adult Attachment Scale, the Thinking About Life Experiences scale (TALE), and the Implicit Relationship Beliefs Scale. Results: Attachment anxiety significantly and negatively predicted intimate relationship satisfaction (β = −0.40, p < 0.001). Autobiographical memory functions played a partial mediating role between attachment anxiety and relationship satisfaction, with the indirect effect accounting for 14.61% of the total effect (95% CI = [0.01, 0.09]). Growth beliefs moderated the positive predictive effect of autobiographical memory functions on relationship satisfaction (β = −0.12, p < 0.05). Simple slope analysis showed that autobiographical memory functions significantly predicted relationship satisfaction among individuals with low growth beliefs (b = 0.35, p < 0.001), but this effect was not significant among those with high growth beliefs (b = 0.10, p > 0.05). The moderating effect of destiny beliefs was not significant. Conclusion: Attachment anxiety not only directly reduces intimate relationship satisfaction, but also exerts an indirect effect by enhancing autobiographical memory functions. Higher growth beliefs weaken the reliance on past memories to maintain relationship satisfaction. These findings provide a new perspective for understanding the internal mechanisms linking adult attachment and relationship satisfaction.
