Abstract: In the digital age, online comments, as an important interactive behavior on social media, allow the public to participate in news discussions and affect their judgments of news credibility. Based on the MAIN model, emotional contagion theory, herd effect, and negativity bias, this study adopted a one-way between-subjects experimental design. The independent variable was online review valence ratio, including five levels: 3:7, 4:6, 5:5, 6:4, and 7:3 (positive comments:negative comments). The dependent variable was news credibility. A total of 200 valid participants were recruited through an online questionnaire to simulate a social media news-reading context. The results showed that review valence ratio significantly affected news credibility (F = 8.230, p < 0.001, η2 = 0.144, moderate effect). It indicates that this effect is both statistically significant and of practical significance. As the proportion of positive comments increased or negative comments decreased, news credibility generally increased; the opposite pattern decreased credibility, but not all changes were significant. The 5:5 ratio was a key point, and credibility under 3:7, 4:6, and 7:3 differed significantly from that under 5:5. The 5:5 ratio can serve as an early warning line for online public opinion, providing evidence for online public opinion supervision, health news communication, and the construction of a healthy online environment.
