Abstract: College students’ emotional distress has become increasingly prominent, has been established as a guiding principle for student mental health work in the new era. Within this framework, Daoyin-based health-preservation sports intangible cultural heritage—characterized by body-breath-mind regulation—unites physical training with cultivation of the heart-mind, rendering it a mental health education resource that remains largely untapped. Existing research has largely centered on verifying the intervention effects of regimens such as Baduanjin and Taijiquan, yet provides limited systematic account of the underlying mechanisms by which such sports heritage promotes emotional health. Taking Wuji Zhan, a Daoyin-based health-preservation sports ICH, as a case, this study adopts a body-mind integration perspective, distills its body-breath-mind regulation features, and constructs a three-level mechanism of action spanning the physiological, psychological, and cultural dimensions. It further proposes practical pathways to empower student emotional health education across four dimensions—curriculum development, faculty-practitioner collaboration, contextual embedding, and cognitive guidance—thereby offering both a mechanistic-level theoretical explanation and actionable guidance for using physical activity to support emotional regulation and stress relief.
