Abstract: Objective: This study aims to understand and explore the relationship between parental marital quality and learning burnout among undergraduates, while investigating the mechanistic role of psychological capital and only-child status in this context. Methods: A survey was conducted on 779 undergraduates using the Undergraduates’ Learning Burnout Scale, the Parental Marital Quality Scale and the Positive Psychological Capital Questionnaire. Results: ① Undergraduates’ learning burnout demonstrates a significant negative correlation with both parental marital quality and psychological capital, while parental marital quality and psychological capital exhibit a significant positive correlation. ② Psychological capital has a complete mediating role between parental marriage relationship and undergraduates’ learning burnout. ③ Only-child status plays a moderating role in the first half of the mediating role of psychological capital. Compared with the only child, the positive prediction of the psychological capital of the non-only child is stronger. Conclusion: Parental marriage relationship was significantly related to the learning burnout of college students, and psychological capital fully mediated the relationship between them. That is, parental marital relationship quality was mainly indirectly related to the learning burnout of college students through psychological capital. The first half of this indirect path was moderated by only-child status, such that parental marital quality was a stronger predictor of psychological capital among non-only children than among only children.
