Abstract: The present study investigated the effects of observing new and old objects on the perception of salty and sweet taste. 3 (objects type: baseline, new objects, old objects) × 2 (taste: sweet, salty) was designed within subjects in this study. Participants evaluated the taste of the water before and after watching the old and new objects. The results showed that: 1) Compared to sweetness, people are more sensitive to the perception of saltiness. 2) Watching new objects can significantly reduce people’s perception of sweetness, but it significantly improves people’s salty perception. 3) Watching old objects had no significant effects on the perception of people’s sweet taste, but it significantly improved people’s salty perception. With the development of the times, new and old objects have different meanings for people. The concepts or emotions induced by watching new and old things may further affect people’s salty and sweet taste perception. The specific relationship and related physiological mechanisms still need to be further explored and studied.
